Question

Which alarm challenges actually get you out of bed?

The ones you cannot finish lying still. Roost Alarm — a challenge alarm for heavy sleepers by Ponuz, LLC — uses math, a memory pattern, a shake, a barcode, a photo of something across the room, or squats counted on-device. There is no snooze. If a camera challenge cannot be verified, it falls back to math or memory so you are never trapped.

Roost Alarm challenges and what they demand
ChallengeWhat it asks you to do
MathFresh problems. Difficulty can rise without becoming a trick question.
MemoryWatch a sequence, tap it back in order.
ShakeMove the phone; a lazy wobble under the duvet is the thing it is built against.
BarcodeScan a code you registered — typically something you have to get up to reach.
PhotoPhotograph an object Roost Alarm picks, such as a sink, toothbrush, or front door.
ExerciseSquats counted with the front camera, on-device, with no internet required.

Why a swipe fails heavy sleepers

Sleep inertia makes an easy off button feel reasonable. The sleepy brain will take that deal. A challenge changes the action from “acknowledge sound” to “think, move, or leave the bed.”

Roost Alarm then runs wake checks so the morning does not collapse five minutes later. Getting up is step one; staying up is the product.

iOS versus Android

On Android, dismissing the alarm goes through the challenge. On iPhone (iOS 26+), the alarm still rings with the app closed, but you can turn off the system alarm without completing the challenge. That limit is documented on purpose.

Premium is $39.99/year or $11.99/month after a 3-day free trial, with every challenge in the set.

Frequently asked questions

What if the camera challenge fails?

Roost Alarm falls back to a dependable challenge such as math or memory. A failed camera or verification path should not leave you stuck with a ringing alarm you cannot stop fairly.

Do I need internet for the challenges?

No. Alarms live on the phone. Exercise (squats) is counted on-device. If a camera challenge cannot be verified, Roost Alarm falls back to math or memory.
